Ingredients
  

Apples

  • 1.5 cups peeled & chopped apples ½ inch chunks; about 2 medium apples
  • 0.33 cups packed light or dark brown sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Batter

  • 1.75 cups all-purpose flour spooned & leveled
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter softened to room temperature
  • 0.75 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs at room temperature
  • 0.33 cups unsweetened applesauce at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cups whole milk at room temperature

Instructions
 

Baking Instructions

  • Adjust the oven rack to the lower third position and preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C). Spray a 9×5-inch loaf pan with nonstick spray.
  • Stir the apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon together. Set aside.
  • Whisk the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together. In another bowl, beat the butter and sugar until smooth. Add eggs and mix until combined. Then add applesauce and vanilla.
  • Pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and mix on low, then stir in the milk until just combined.
  • Pour half the batter into the prepared loaf pan, add the apple mixture on top, then add the remaining batter and swirl with a knife.
  • Bake for 60-75 minutes, loosely covering with foil at the 30-minute mark. Check for doneness with a toothpick.
  • Cool in the pan on a wire rack, then cut into slices and serve.
  • Store the bread at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Notes

Freeze baked & cooled loaf for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator. If desired, bring to room temperature before serving.
