My Absolute Favorite Healthier Hot Chocolate

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups unsweetened almond milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ounce dark chocolate (70% or higher), chopped
  • a pinch of sea salt
  • coconut whipped cream for serving Optional
  • ground cinnamon Optional

Instructions
 

  • In a small saucepan, whisk together the cocoa powder and almond milk until smooth.
  • Place the saucepan over medium heat and add maple syrup and chopped dark chocolate.
  • Whisk constantly until the chocolate melts and the mixture is heated through, about 5-6 minutes. Do not let it boil.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in vanilla extract and sea salt. Add a dash of ground cinnamon if using.
  • Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and top with coconut whipped cream if desired. Serve immediately.
