- 2 cups unsweetened almond milk
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 ounce dark chocolate (70% or higher), chopped
- a pinch of sea salt
- coconut whipped cream for serving Optional
- ground cinnamon Optional
In a small saucepan, whisk together the cocoa powder and almond milk until smooth.
Place the saucepan over medium heat and add maple syrup and chopped dark chocolate.
Whisk constantly until the chocolate melts and the mixture is heated through, about 5-6 minutes. Do not let it boil.
Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in vanilla extract and sea salt. Add a dash of ground cinnamon if using.
Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and top with coconut whipped cream if desired. Serve immediately.
